With reference to a telegram received at the Colonial

Office on November 15th, from the Governor of Hongkong

and communicated the same evening to this Department, in

which His Excellency enquires what attitude he is to

adopt in case an appeal for help is made to him by the

Governor of Macao against possible aggressive action on

the part of the Chinese, I am directed by Earl Curzon of

Kedleston to state for the information of Lord Milner

that no communication has been received from the Portuguese Government on the subject nor from His Majesty's

Minister in Pekin.

Lord Curzon is accordingly repeating the Governor's telegram to Sir J. Jordan and calling for a report on the question at issue and the likelihood of difficulty

arising.
